Funding announcement: H2H Network expands support for the humanitarian response post-earthquake in Myanmar

Following the 2024 H2H Fund activation in response to the escalating conflict in Myanmar, which delivered critical services such as independent analysis, operational guidance, and verification of information flows, the H2H Network has now expanded its support to the humanitarian response in the country. This comes in the wake of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck near Mandalay on 28 March 2025. This latest activation builds on trusted partnerships and lessons learned to rapidly deliver technical support in a highly complex and constrained environment.
The earthquake has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation in Myanmar and pushed an already fragile system to the brink. Political instability, widespread displacement, and collapsing infrastructure, coupled with chronic underfunding, have made humanitarian coordination more challenging than ever.
In response, the H2H Fund is supporting a coordinated package of data, information management, and community engagement services aimed at strengthening humanitarian action where it is most needed and most difficult to deliver.
Services funded through this activation include:
- In-depth analysis and mapping of information ecosystems in Myanmar’s non-SAC-controlled areas to inform more balanced humanitarian decision-making and coordination, delivered by ACAPS
- Open mapping for earthquake response by crowdsourcing building footprints, piloting damage assessments, and comparing open datasets for improved data accuracy, enhanced by Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT)
- Rapid needs and market assessments to generate actionable data for planning emergency aid and cash-based interventions in earthquake-affected areas, conducted by IMPACT Initiatives
- Technical geospatial support and safe data-sharing methodologies to strengthen coordination and decision-making across humanitarian actors in Myanmar, provided by MapAction
- Access to reliable information for affected communities through rapid analysis, coordination calls, and field-based support to counter harmful narratives, improved by CDAC Network
- Tools, training, and support for frontline responders to deliver accountable and community-focused humanitarian assistance, provided by Sphere and CHS Alliance
- Real-time community feedback to inform more responsive, inclusive programming through qualitative analysis and stakeholder briefings, collected by Ground Truth Solutions
- Social media tracking of public sentiment and misinformation, offering early warnings and communication guidance to strengthen local engagement efforts, monitored by Insecurity Insight
With this new activation, the H2H Network is supporting principled, qualitative, and community-informed humanitarian response in Myanmar. All services are designed to fill critical gaps, are accessible to humanitarian responders, and are provided free of charge.
This activation is made possible through funding from UK aid – from the British people and the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC).
